Hello, my name is Laura Panetta. I live in Australia with my family (my mum, dad, brother and sister).
Inclusion is one of the fundamental principles of our society, yet so often it is not recognised or respected. In education, we certainly need to be doing more to ensure that our schools are inclusive of everyone, regardless of who they are or their cultural background.
One thing that I would like to change in education and society is people’s attitudes towards disability. My little brother Julius has Down syndrome, and he has always gone to our local government primary school, where I also went until this year. I can’t imagine it any other way, but I know that many students with disabilities are segregated in special schools and special classes, even though they have a human right to an inclusive education.
I want to help advocate for inclusive education and a more inclusive society. I have also co-founded Sa4i – Student Alliance for Inclusion.
Thanks for visiting and I hope you enjoy my website. Click here to find out more!
